Process to Get Vehicle Owner Details
There are three ways to find name and registration (RC) details of vehicle in India. Follow these Steps:
- Through the V A H A N | National Register e-Services portal:
To access these services citizen can register on Vahan National Register Portal (e.g., https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/nrservices/).
- Via the Transport Department’s Official Application:
Get Vehicle owner details by using the official app, NextGen mParivahan.
- Through SMS:
Send the vehicle number to service number you can get information via SMS.
Through the Vahan National Register Portal
The Transport Department has made it extremely simple to find the owner’s name using the vehicle number. Follow these easy steps:
- Open the Vahan National Register’s official website – https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/nrservices/.
- Click the “Know Your Vehicle Details” option in the menu bar.

- Log in page will appear use your mobile number and fill verification code click on Next. If you and not register on Parivahan Sewa Portal Then click on “Create Account”.
Note
Activate your mobile Number which you can use for registration because you can Receive OTP Code during registration.

- In Vahan NR e-services New User Registration page, enter you mobile number and email ID and fill out verifaction Code then click on Generate OTP.
- Next, enter your name and password and click on “Save” Button.

- Your registration is successfully completed. Now, Login using mobile number.
- RC Status page will open enter personal details such as Vehicle Number and Verification code.
Note
To avoid errors please enter a correct Vehicle Number to receive RC details.

- Click on “Vahan Search” to get Vehicle Owner’s details like RTO name, owner’s name, registration data, insurance details etc.

Avoid sharing personal information publicly save and take screenshot of these details for future.
Note
You can also get the vehicle owner’s name by an SMS. You just need to type “VAHAN” vehicle’s registration no in your phone and sms it to “07738299899”. You’ll get an SMS with the owner’s name and related info.
Obtain Vehicle Details via mParivahan App
- First, you need to download NextGen mParivahan app from the Play store and register yourself and login.
- You will see a similar user interface as on the website. Click on “Informational Services”.
- Later, Click on “RC Search” below.

- Type in the registration number of the car you want to check and then click search.
- By doing this, you will see the name of the vehicle owner, model, engine number, chassis number and other registration details on your screen.
Obtain RTO Vehicle Information
You can check through the “Know Your Vehicle Details” on Parivahan Portal, which allows user to get information for any vehicle under an RTO. Follow the complete steps:
- Visit to Transport Department website-https://parivahan.gov.in/.
- In homepage, find the “Vehicle Related Services” and open it.

- Select your state and RTO then click on “Proceed”.

- Click on the “Services” in header and select “Additional Services” then click on “Know Your Vehicle Details.”

- Add vehicle registration number, chassis number and engine number.

- Fill out all information, click “Verify Details”.

RC Print (Form 23)
To check vehicle documents, follow these steps:
- Visit the official website – https://parivahan.gov.in/.
- In Online Services menu find “Vehicle Related Services” and click on it.
- Choose your State.
- Fill registration number or select RTO then click “Proceed”.

- Click on “Download Document” and select “RC Print (Form 23)” from the option.

- Enter registration number, chassis number and engine number then click “Verify.” Vehicle details will appear.
Vehicle Number Details
In India, a specific format follows in Vehicle Registration Number that provide all information about vehicle such as state Regional Transport Office (RTO). We discuss four main parts in it:
1. State Code
First, two letters indicate the state or union territory where the vehicle is registered. Each state has a unique code in India.
Examples:
- MH – Maharashtra
- DL – Delhi

2. RTO Code
Second, two-digit code indicate the Regional Transport Office (RTO) where the vehicle is registered. This help us to know about city or district in state.

4. Alphabet Code
Foruth, a two-letter alphabet code is helping to make serial number more unique in RTO.
Example:
- MH 01 AB 1234 – “AB” is the alphabet code.
