Vehicle RC Renewal – How to Apply for a Vehicle RC Renewal

Registration Certificate(RC) is legal document and proof of a vehicle registration and ownership, mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. RC is valid for 15 years and renewed every 5 years and make the vehicle is roadworthy by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Visit Parivahan Portal

Parivahan Sewa Portal provide online RC renewal in many states. Follow these easy steps:

  • Visit the Portal: Visit to Parivahan Sewa website and select “Online Services”> “Vehicle Related Services”.

  • Select State and RTO: Select your RTO and state, then click “Proceed”.
  • RC Services: In “services” select “RC Related Services”>“Renewal of Registration”.

  • Enter Vehicle Details: Enter your vehicle registration number and chassis number then click on Verify Details.

  • Pay Taxes: Use debit card or net banking for any pending road taxes.
  • Upload Documents: Upload copies of Form 25, PUC certificate, insurance certificate, identity proof, and other required documents.
  • Book Appointment: Book an appointment at the RTO for vehicle inspection.
  • Pay Renewal Fee: Pay the applicable fee online. Download the payment receipt.
RC-Reciept
  • Receive RC: After document verification the renewed RC is sent to your registered address within 2 weeks.

Check RTO website for availability of your state all states cannot support online renewal (West Bengal requires offline application).

If online renewal is unavailable follow these steps:

  • Visit RTO: Go to local RTO to register your vehicle during working hours.
  • Obtain Form 25: Get RC renewal application (Form 25) from RTO and Download the Parivahan Sewa website.
  • Fill and Submit: Fill out Form 25 details and attach all required documents.
  • Pay Fees and Taxes: Pay the renewal fee and taxes and download receipt.
  • Vehicle Inspection: If required get the vehicle for inspection at RTO to verify.
  • Verification and Issuance: After RTO verification the renewed RC is issued or send to your address.

Renewal Fees

RC renewal fees depend on vehicle type and state, Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

  • Two-wheelers: ₹300
  • Four-wheelers (non-transport): ₹600–₹1,000
  • Commercial vehicles: Higher, depending on vehicle class
  • Smart card RC: Additional ₹200
  • Late fees: ₹300/month (two-wheelers) or ₹500/month (other non-transport vehicles) if applied after 60 days post-expiry.

Penalties for Non-Renewal

If you driving with expired RC violates the Motor Vehicles Act:

  • First offense: Fine up to ₹5,000
  • Subsequent offenses: Fines up to ₹10,000, vehicle impoundment, or court proceedings
    Renewal after expiry is possible with a penalty fee, but timely renewal avoids legal issues.

Documents Required

  • Form 25: Completed application form.
  • Original RC: Current RC or smart card (apply for duplicate if lost).
  • PUC Certificate: Valid emission compliance certificate.
  • Vehicle Insurance: Proof of valid motor insurance.
  • Road Tax Payment Proof: Receipt or statement of paid taxes.
  • Fitness Certificate: Mandatory for commercial vehicles, optional for private unless required.
  • PAN Card or Form 60/61: Copy of PAN or Form 60/61 if PAN unavailable.
  • Chassis and Engine Pencil Print: Prints of vehicle’s chassis and engine numbers.
  • Signature Identification: Document verify owner’s signature.
  • Identity and Address Proof: Aadhaar, voter ID, passport, or similar ID.
