In this article, we will tell you how to check the status of your E-challan and make payments online or offline so that you follow the instructions properly without getting penalized.

E-challan is fine issued to break traffic rule violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The rule breaking photos is recorded through CCTV cameras, speed guns or by traffic officers and uploaded to database. E-challans details include the violation type, fine amount, data, time and location pay these fees within 60 days .

Use three method to check e-challan status vehicle number, challan number, or driving license (DL) number.

Checking E-Challan by Vehicle Number

  • Visit the Parivahan portal echallan.parivahan.gov.in.
  • Click on “Check Online Services” then  “Check Challan Status.”

  • Visit echallan.parivahan.gov.in portal and choose “Check Challan Status”.
  • Select “Challan Number” section.
  • Enter a unique challan number send your through SMS.
  • Enter captcha code for verification.
  • Click “Get Details” to see challan details like fine, reason etc.

  • Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in and choose “Check Challan Status”.
  • Click on “DL Number” option.
  • Enter your “Driving license number” and fill captcha code.
  • Click on “Get Details” and check your challan.

Use online and offline method to pay the challan. Follow these steps to pay:

Online Payment Process

  • After check status on echallan.parivahan.gov.in you will see the pending challan, fine amount or violation type and “Pay Now”.
  • Select the challan which you want to pay, you can pay multiple challan in oe time.
  • Click “Pay Now” to pay challan.
Pay-Challan
  • Choose Payment Method:
    • Through Bank: Log in to your bank account and pay challan.
    • Debit/Credit Card: Enter your card details and pay by enter your secret password.
    • UPI: Through UPI app scan QR code and enter your UPI ID (e.g., yourname@upi) and approve the payment.
    • Wallets: Some portals support digital wallets like Paytm or PhonePe.
Payment-Options
  • Verify your amount matches the challan details.
  • Complete your Transaction enter an OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
echallan-PAY
  • After successful payment download the receipt for future use.
  • Return to portal and refresh the page and check challan status is updated “Paid”.

Offline Payment Process

If you pay your challan through offline method:

  • Got to Payment Center: Go to traffic police station, Regional Transport Office (RTO) or supported bank.
  • Present Challan Details: Through the challan number, vehicle number print your challan from Parivahan Portal.
  • Pay the Fine: Pay the fine amount in cash, by card or other methods.
  • Collect Receipt: Obtain receipt proof for future.
  • Verify Status: Go to online portal and ensure the challan status is paid.

  • Payment Deadline: Pay e-challans in 60 days avoid late and additional fees.
  • Verify Challan Details: Before paying, confirm the vehicle number, and fine amount to avoid disputes or fraudulent challans.
  • Incorrect Challan: Contact to your local traffic police or RTO with proof if the challan issued incorrectly.
  • Save Records: Save all payments receipts until the challan status is updated as “Paid”.
  • Challan Not Found: If no challans found check the vehicle, challan, or DL number is correct. A new challans take a few days for updated in datebase.
  • Payment Failure: If transaction is fail check your bank balance or internet. Contact your bank if the challan is unpaid.
  • Incorrect Details: Report to Parivahan portal or traffic police station if challan details don’t match your vehicle.
  • Carry Digital Documents: Use DigiLocker or mParivahan apps to store valid driving license, insurance, and pollution certificates.
  • Follow Speed Limits: Follow the speed (e.g., 40–60 km/h in urban areas, 80–100 km/h on highways) to avoid fines.
  • Use Mobile Devices: Avoid using mobile phones during driving use hand-free systems for calls.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Makesure your vehicle is approved by Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
  • Wear Safety Gear: Follow safety rules wear helmets (two-wheelers) and seatbelts (cars).
  • Check the challan on echallan.parivahan.gov.in. Check the violation matches your vehicle and location.
  • Collect proof like photos, videos, or GPS data show you are not in the violation site.
  • File a Grievance:
    • Online: In Parivahan portal grievance section or traffic police website.
    • Offline: Go to local police station or RTO with proof and challan details.
  • Check online: Track the grievance status online challan is canceled when disputes is solved.
  • Premium Increase:
    Frequent traffic violations like speeding or rash driving mark you as a high-risk driver, leading to higher insurance premiums.
  • Claim Rejections:

  • Recommendation:
